Opposite Numbers in Tangents

This SCP entry, with some recent reading about Batman villains and supporting characters as distorted versions of the hero, had me thinking about the usefulness of encounters with groups from other tangents who have very similar purposes (research, artifact-collecting, security) and procedures to tangent-travelling heroes, though their society and their own organisation might be wildly exotic. No doubt classic Cold War spy fiction could also provide plenty of inspiration.

I think that would be an interesting, Green Lanternish way of starting a tangents game. The heroes doubles appear and then die. The heroes take the gear that allow tangent travel and away they go.

Also an easy way to replace anybody who gets themselves killed.

Fringe is doing interesting things with this concept in the latest season.

This seems like a structure that might build up over a few sessions, with a bit of work to set up (perhaps not too much, for the right GM):

The Tri-Dimensional Planebox Megacrawlathon Sandhexamagig

Temporal Troubles

"While you were mucking around with time, so was another you, in another time. That other you is a little different, maybe married someone else, or has a different job. And there was another you beyond that, but from a different country. And another, who looks like Bruce Willis. Somehow they’re here now. You have to kill them."

As might be expected for the fourth (and concluding) instalment in The Yellow King, past connections begin to show up in:
