This is just to point out some of the latest settings using the theme of alternate Earths or divergent histories:

1948

"1948 is a sci-fi/fantasy adventure setting featuring an alternate WWII history. In 1948, no atomic bombs have been developed yet, though several nations are racing towards that end.

Instead, dozens of other "wonder weapons" have been invented including huge super-tanks that weigh over 1,000 tons, ray guns, jet packs, flying platforms, and genetic mutations. There are also plenty of extra-dimensional aliens, demons, monsters, and much more. The 1948 setting also features a heavy dose of magic and mysticism. Voodoo mystics, occultists, holy knights, psychic spies, and arcane scholars are frequently encountered. Legends of huge underground cities, lost tomes of power and races of superior beings entice governments on both sides of the conflict to hunt down every possible advantage they can find."

Etherscope

"In 1876, Harold Wallace discovered something that changed the world: Etherspace. The might of Victorian industry drove forward, breaking down the frontiers of technology. Steam engines became smaller, weapons became more powerful, and cybernaughtics replaced limbs lost in bloody imperial wars. Then mankind learned to step into Etherspace itself.

Now it's 1984. In this alternative world of out-of-control technology, Etherspace is the new frontier. Punk scope riders fight evil industrialists while occult investigators war against Etherspace demons. Mysterious System Agents lurk in the shadows as treasure hunters raid Lemurean ruins for lost secrets. Jack in, scope up, and get ready, because the options for an Etherscope game are endless!"

Vampire Earth

"WELCOME TO THE YEAR 2065. EARTH IS UNDER NEW MANAGEMENT.

A lot has changed in the forty-third year of the Kurian Order. Possessed of a legendary hunger, the bloodthirsty Reapers have come to Earth to establish a New Order built on the harvesting of enslaved human souls. They rule the planet. They thrive on the scent of fear. And if it is night, as sure as darkness, they will come."

Year of the Zombie

"The Chinese Zodiac contains many animals that years are named for. These animals have special signifigance for each year, each animal having a difference influence upon the events of the year. The Year of the Dragon, the Year of the Ram, the Year of the Rat, all of these have been repeated throughout history, and during each of them, the namesake of the year has had profound effect upon the year itself.

This year, however, is the year of something not mentioned on any zodiac. Something that will have a special signifigance, something that will have a direct influence upon not only events, but every living person in the entire world. Something that will bring about more than just a change in seasons, more than a change in the political climate. Something that did not care about religion, race, political leanings or personal philosophy.

This year, is the Year of the Zombie.

Year of the Zombie is a campaign template for d20 games set in current times or the near future, that can have slight effects that are quietly silenced and hidden from the general public, or world changing events that will forever change the lives of those who survive depending on the wishes of those participating in the campaign. Starting at initial infection and covering changes all the way through to fifty years later, and includes data on the human threat as well as environmental threats that spawn from the carcass of a dead civilization."

Cold Space

"Cold Space covers the years 1949 to 1989, after swiss scientists discovered a faster than light drive and antigravity using obscure physics principles. The Soviets quickly stole the idea, and the race for the stars was on!

The ships they flew in were crude, rough, and apt to fall apart if not tended constantly, but they worked!

The Cold War has moved into space, where the Americans, Soviets, and the rest of the nations of the world move in a political miasma of espionage, proxy wars, revolution, deceit, and betrayal."

'45 Psychobilly Retropocalypse

"HE was a mutant with a gift for the guitar and an eye for the ladies...
SHE was a hotrod-racing bombshell on the lookout for love...
IT crawled from the wastes of Nashville crater, seeking human victims...
THEY were trapped in a world they never made!

'45 is a world where WWII was fought with atomic bombs on all sides
'45 is a world where the B-movies are real
'45 is a world where Rock N' Roll mutants do battle with giant ants
'45 is a Psychobilly Retropocalypse"

I've started reading through Restoration, which is more of a time-travel game with a twist:

Restoration Field Guide

"You were never born - you were created. You are a restorer, made from the DNA and the memories of someone else, built cell-by-cell for reconnaissance, intelligence, and infiltration. You're trained in the sciences, you know forty languages, in combat you're calm, quick, lethal. Your body and mind are well-honed weapons. Not a soul on earth knows your name, and the organization you work for... never existed. You're in control. No matter the mission. No matter the place.

Or time."

Small rules add-ons to adapt the feel of a setting to the conventions of a certain genre, perhaps a bit like Torg's Laws.

edit: Speaking of which: Torg Revised and Expanded is currently on special. "They came from other cosms, raiders joined together to steal the Earth’s possibilities. They brought with them their different realities, turning portions of our world into someplace else."

From the same publisher:

FTL Now

"The colonies settled in Cold Space now have to deal with the Interplanetary War on Terrorism, beginning with the horror of what happened on September 11, 2001.

The search is on for the terrorists - the American Rocket Corps poking its pointed, suspicious, space-pitted nose into everyone's business.

The dozens of micro colonies that were founded by special interest groups, corporations, and private interests have to survive with Mother Earth turning her back on them."

I got one for ya:

Masters of Reality
This nebulous world is occupied by cloaked x humanoids sitting at a table, with one obscured by a translucent screen, and appearing only in sillouette. They say nothing, and the area that they occupy is open air and desolate, with stom clouds boiling overhead, threatening a deluge of rain, but it never comes. On the table are piles of apparently arcane tomes and scrools, with some form of writing implements and oddly cut gems scattered around the table. Interacting with the entities is fruitless, and attempts to peer around the screen or interact witht he entity behind the screen are equally futile. If a hero attempts to injure or hurt any other cloaked entity, another hero at random dies suddenly and mysteriously, but the remaining cloaked entities are unmoved. It shouldn't rake them long to realize that the heroes have stumbed on an RPG game session... and they're the game!

A nifty new adventure (not that new) for Etherscope:

What is is about Lemuria, anyway? Sometimes it gets worse than Atlantis.

E.N. Mini-Games - Time Police

This is more of a time travel game, but the background suggests some involvement of parallel timelines.

"There was only one explanation: the past could not be changed, even by changing the past."

edit: Time Police is also available (for the same price, as it happens, as of today) in E.N. World Gamer #3.
