Some plants that gained intelligence and mobility shortly after the cataclysm took the shape of cage bots (those used to capture animals) with a minor shapeshifting mutation. Their descendants still take the shape of cages, not understanding they could take other shapes.

Many of these plants are hunters or bounty hunters for obvious reasons.

Some mutant plants that have growth related mutations have discovered a way to dominate a small region. They completely consume a river or waterfall and then sell water rich fruit. Those that can't defend themselves effectively hire mercenaries, usually plants. And that water is so valuable that these plants become hoarders with mounds of loot somewhere within their masses or under their roots.

Some forests are made up of trees and shrubs that shed their above ground mass every so often (annually to once a decade) and the roots then grow to find new places of high nutrient load that can support a resprouting. All of the plants that do this produce 2-5 such roots and thus have a secondary method of reproduction. The regrowth may happen rapidly or take a few years depending on the speed of the life cycle. Fast ones can cause major disruptions for ranchers who set up on the edges of such forests- their land is rich with nitrogen fertilizer after all.

As to why, well surface conditions can be bad in the off season.

The Herd is a small forest, about 10 square kilometers, where the trees have cattle head-shaped trunks and hoof-shaped leaves. It is unknown if they were bovines that took plant form or the reverse. People don't like walking through it as the trees' eyes tend to follow movement, allowing ambush predators an easier attack.

Buzz domes are trees with Altered Structural Element (silicon) and their leaves have merged into domes. They draw electricity from the air, static and lightning, storing it in specialized structures in their roots. They also photosynthesize and product abnormal sugars that are candy for androids with digestive tracks. It is a good idea to avoid the area where these are sighted.

This image: https://postapocalypticflimflam.tumblr.com/...ge/180620582213 reminds me of the kai lin. It is a plant that looks like a dinosaur and can electrocute and/or irradiate its prey to death. A few variations include:

- 3 m long snails with mineralized wooden shells and sap "slime" on which it glides. The sap becomes toxic after 5 minutes of exposure to air, a hemotoxin with a -1 bonus to checks. The slime becomes inert after an hour and will wash away with the next rain.

- 4 m long centipedes with variable vegetable toxins. Each time one is encountered the GM has to roll or select a toxic plant and use its poison. The legs alternate between branches and roots, though in combination they allow the critter to move really damn fast (-3 to Action Checks and +3 to Dex resistance checks).

- 2 m long crickets with songs that are alluring to other plants. They can be considered pipers but only to those plants that can already move. So in most cases farmers don't have to worry about their crops walking away if a cricket/plant migrates through their farm.

Some ideas on how plant colors have changed since the cataclysm. It adds a lot of diversity and a few concepts to mutant plants.

A follow up to yesterday's post. The electromagnetic spectrum can be used as colors in MF. And a few ideas on wandering organs as parasite mutations and transformations.
