Pan Tang in Tangents

JB of B/X Blackrazor has come across a change in the BECMI version of D&D with which he seems unimpressed, and inspired to release the hordes of Chaos upon the Known World.

This raises a point. In Moorcock's work and most definitely in the Stormbringer game, Pan Tang and its inhabitants are not just a nest of nihilistic demon-worshippers who took over from enervated Melniboné as the prime exponents of Entropy. They're an intrusion from another timeline of the Eternal Champion, a ravaged isle bearing a displaced group of the same Mabden race of primitive humans rampaging over Prince Corum's elder North America in the Swords trilogy. Like some other examples of people and lands shifted through the multiverse, they're much changed by their journey.

Maybe temporal intrusions of this size in other settings have similar disruptive potential.

It sounds like a bit of Orientalism (yes, I know how some have defined the word) and honestly, that's probably all Moorcock meant by it at the time. We can read the name as not derived that way at all. The island's name consists of the truth it brings: Everything slides away.
