Ancient fiction will still be around well beyond the lifetimes of the heroes and some people think they are recordings of real events (which you can't blame them considering the chaos of the world).

So say someone watches a version of Lord of the Rings and decides they want to have the power of Sauron. That means armies, enhanced slaves and enough force to control a good chunk of the region.

The obvious method would find an AI in the Created that would be willing to create the rings and upload the minds of the would be master and their servants. From there the people and creatures that try to claim the rings will be possessed and they will act to create the armies needed to crush every other significant threat in the area (sans machines).

But there are other ways as well. Ignoring the Created, one could look for machines that will turn the character and allies into mind controlling parasites that may or may not be ring shaped (or even something like a tattoo). Or the ring bearers might live in an orbital station and provide technology rather than mind control to entice/bend others to their will. Or even the characters may try to skip out on Gamma Terra entirely and find a tangent were Middle Earth resides and invade in hopes of finding the rings. With the right mental mutations, the battle of wills between the Great Ring and bearer could be epic with no clear winner.

So remember kids, Ancient recordings may lead people to do crazy things.

Also, was this idea based on the movie Galaxy Quest?

Nope. I was thinking of ways that the players may go full evil with their characters in my up coming Mutant Future campaign. Sauron was the top of the list.

If the PCs on the Warden from Met. Alpha or some other giant starship or space station, you could have them search for the one ring, wristband, ID card, control rod, etc. that controls the entire ship or station. For example, the captain of the starship or commander of the space station could have one tech item that controls every function on the ship/station. There could also be other tech items that control engineering, medical stations, or security on the ship/station. But there would be just one tech item that controls everything. The mutant or human who controls that one ring, armband, control rod, etc. would the most powerful person on that ship/station.

That is in one of the new Metamorphosis Alpha adventures: http://www.rpgnow.com/product/148702/MA-Th...vel-of-the-Lost

That ring is a good way to dominate the Warden or die at the hands of its androids.
