Pirates once again roam the spaceways near Bluefall. Merchant ships using well-known trading lanes are reporting being ambushed by heavily-armed spacecraft. The Regency Navy has attempted to catch the pirates, but they have come up with nothing!
In the last two weeks, fourteen merchant traders released distress calls from various different trading lanes leading to and from Bluefall. Before any assistance can arrive, the pirates have already attacked, disabled, boarded, and left. The Regency Navy has begun sending patrols out to protect shipping lanes, the pirates always seem to be where the Navy is not.
A captain of a system patrol cutter that wished to remain anonymous has suggested the pirates have a spy working from within the Regency Navy. How else could they be so successful at avoiding patrols?
Christopher Hale believes otherwise, saying, "The Regency Navy is doing its best to protect all merchant shipping. The pirates have managed to evade patrols by being at the right place at the right time. Simply put, it is merely a matter of time before we catch the pirates. Their luck cannot hold out forever, and when it runs out, we'll be there."
However, some trader captains have begun expressing doubts about the ability of the Regency Navy to protect their vessels. Some have even resorted to hiring other ships to escort trading ships out to starfalling position. Others speculate that these pirates are actually a disgruntled stellar nation, possibly the Thuldans, that is trying to cause trouble for the Regency by disrupting trade. Still other captains feel that this outbreak of pirate attacks will end soon. They plan to continue shipping operations as normal.
